Technology and Education

It never occured to me that we are overwhelmed by technology to this extent until I encountered this situation.One of my students brought to my attention that he couldn't find any relevant information in books for his research paper. I asked him to log on elibrary website and try to get some information from the immense number of books he can find there.The answer that triggered my attantion was that "I don't need to read any books if I can surf the net".
It's amazing how our students and all this future generation rely on technolgy in everything they do. I encourage the way we are being exposed to science, arts and many other aspects, but I really ask this generation to respect the value of reading books.
We as educators play a major role in this matter. Encourage the students to benefit from the facilities that the technology offers, but try to shun them from abusing it.
Reading widens the scope of the mind.

Problem 1: Students may fear failure or fear taking risks in their own work.
Solution: Build up self confidence through experimental and progressive work.
Problem 2: Instructors and institutions may fail to report cheating when it occurs, or may not     implement appropriate punishments which motivate the students to perform plagiarism.
Solution: Policies should be voiced clearly through the administration and the teachers and dramatic measurements should be implemented.
On Friendship
 Kahlil Gibran
Your friend is your needs answered.
He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving.
And he is your board and your fireside.
For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.

When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the "nay" in your own mind, nor do you withhold the "ay."
And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart;
For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed.
When you part from your friend, you grieve not;
For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit.
For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught.

And let your best be for your friend.
If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also.
For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?
Seek him always with hours to live.
For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.
And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.
Gibran is the man of all times. When he writes he excels, when he paints he surpasses his contemporaries to extend to eternity.
Thinking of my friends I came across the most gorgeous definition ever.
Read and enjoy.
